Founder and General Manager Adem Çakmak says Optima Power’s experience in technical services, maintenance, repairs and spare parts is being combined with Tetra Ship Management’s ship management capabilities to create a new service model. He explains the purpose of this initiative as follows: “Our aim is to reduce the coordination burden on shipowners when dealing with different service providers and to deliver fast, reliable solutions across processes ranging from technical requirements to ship management.”

Emphasising that trust is fundamental to both companies, Çakmak adds: “When a vessel is at sea, our customer must be able to reach us, we must fulfil our commitments and stand behind the work we do.”

Unplanned machinery failures can cause significant time losses and costs for shipowners. What model do you apply to shorten service times for work carried out onboard vessels or in your workshop?

In the maritime industry, time is money. That is why our priorities are to diagnose problems accurately, respond quickly and get the job done right the first time. We manage our field service team, workshop infrastructure and spare parts organisation as an integrated operation. In addition to maintenance and repair services, we supply engine and equipment parts and maintain stock for selected product groups. This enables us to respond more quickly when a critical part already in stock is required.

Before work begins, we plan the necessary equipment, parts and personnel. Our goal is to return the vessel to operation as quickly as possible. For us, fast service is not simply about responding to a breakdown promptly; it is about preparing in advance and managing the entire process from start to finish.

You operate across a wide range of activities, from onboard vessel services and workshop operations to shipyard representation and spare parts supply. What advantages does offering these services together provide to shipowners?

A technical requirement is often not limited to a single task. An engine failure may require a service team, spare parts, workshop work and, in some cases, shipyard operations within the same process. By coordinating these activities through a single organisation wherever possible, we aim to reduce time losses for our customers.

To develop this approach, we established TETRA Ship Management as a separate company together with experienced professionals from the maritime industry. Our goal is to combine Optima Power’s expertise in technical services, maintenance, repairs and spare parts with TETRA Ship Management’s ship management operations.

Our aim is to reduce the coordination burden on shipowners when dealing with different service providers and to deliver fast, reliable solutions across processes ranging from technical requirements to ship management.

Environmental regulations, alternative fuels and next-generation engine technologies are becoming increasingly important. How is Optima Power preparing for this transformation?

The green transition is shaping the future of the maritime industry. We are monitoring developments in next-generation engines, alternative fuels and energy efficiency while working to strengthen our technical team’s expertise.

At the same time, we are focusing on maintenance, repair and refurbishment solutions that can help existing fleets operate more efficiently and with lower emissions. We believe we must develop the technical capabilities our customers will need in the future today.

You aim to become a regional market leader in marine engine servicing, repairs and engine parts refurbishment. Which investments will you prioritise to achieve this goal?

We do not define market leadership solely in terms of company size. Technical expertise, service quality, product availability and reliability are equally fundamental to this ambition.

In the coming period, we plan to invest in our workforce, workshop capacity and technological infrastructure. We also want to strengthen our spare parts inventory and supply capabilities so that we can respond more quickly to critical requirements.

Trust remains at the heart of all these efforts. When a vessel is at sea, our customer must be able to reach us, we must fulfil our commitments and stand behind the work we do. As we develop the capabilities of Optima Power and TETRA Ship Management, we also aim to strengthen this relationship of trust.

Our long-term goal is to build a strong maritime group providing services to international markets from Türkiye. For us, success means more than returning a vessel to operation; it also means becoming the first company our customer turns to when the next need arises.
