Iran: “A prohibited zone will be declared around the Strait of Hormuz”
Iran will declare a “prohibited zone” around the Strait of Hormuz, with commercial vessels passing through the area facing sanctions. Tehran also said it had reached an agreement with Oman on transit routes.
Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, announced that Tehran would soon declare a “prohibited zone” around the Strait of Hormuz. Rezaei stated that the zone would extend from the area where the blockade declared by the US Navy begins to the inner parts of the Persian Gulf. The Iranian official said that any commercial vessel attempting to enter this area would be placed on the sanctions list.
New international corridor to be operated by Iran to be announced in the coming days
Referring to the talks with Oman regarding international maritime shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, Rezaei said that the two sides had reached an agreement on the routes to be used for transit through the area and that the agreement would be signed in the coming days. Rezaei said, “The new international corridor to be operated by Iran has been determined together with our brotherly country Oman and will be announced in the coming days.”
Rezaei also said that reports in the international media claiming that Iran was experiencing shortages of essential goods due to the US blockade and economic sanctions did not reflect the truth.
America’s withdrawal from the agreement put us on a new path
Rezaei said that US President Donald Trump had withdrawn from the memorandum of understanding signed between the parties in June, adding that this decision had prompted Tehran to change its strategy regarding war and negotiations. Rezaei said, “After Trump withdrew from the agreement, we concluded that we needed to adopt a new strategy in the areas of war and negotiations. America’s withdrawal from the agreement put us on a new path.”
Iran tests its domestically produced anti-ship missile for the first time
The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council also stated that, 48 hours ago, Iran had tested its domestically produced anti-ship missile against a US vessel for the first time. Rezaei said, “This particular missile made the Americans experience hell, and they were forced to flee.”
