QatarEnergy Signs 20-Year LNG Supply Deal with Louisiana Project
QatarEnergy has signed a long-term agreement to purchase LNG from the US-based Louisiana LNG project, with deliveries scheduled to begin in late 2030 and continue for 20 years.
According to a statement by QatarEnergy, a long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) has been signed for the supply of natural gas from the Louisiana LNG project, currently under construction on the US Gulf Coast. The agreement was signed at a ceremony held in the Qatari capital, Doha.
Under the agreement, LNG deliveries to Qatar are expected to begin at the end of 2030 and continue for 20 years.
The signing ceremony was attended by Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, and Liz Westcott, CEO of Woodside Energy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Al-Kaabi welcomed the agreement, stating that the company had signed a new long-term deal to purchase LNG from the United States.
Al-Kaabi emphasised that the additional LNG volumes secured under the agreement would make Qatar one of the largest buyers of US-origin LNG. He added that the deal would also strengthen Qatar’s position in meeting growing global LNG demand.
He noted that the Louisiana LNG project and the company’s LNG purchases from the United States would expand QatarEnergy’s presence in the global LNG sector.
Al-Kaabi also stated that the agreement supports the company’s long-term growth and diversification strategy, adding that QatarEnergy aims to enhance the flexibility of its LNG portfolio and strengthen its competitiveness in global markets.
