Four Vessels from Libya’s State-Owned Fleet Arrive at Turkish Shipyards
Four vessels operated by Libya’s GNMTC arrived in Türkiye for maintenance and repair in 2026, with Fezzan, Anwaar, Alyarmouk and Alqadisia assigned to Turkish shipyards, further strengthening maritime cooperation between the two countries.
According to information obtained by 7Deniz, GNMTC’s new management approved the vessels’ maintenance and repair work. Fezzan arrived at Beşiktaş Shipyard, Anwaar and Alyarmouk at Sefine Shipyard, and Alqadisia at Gemak Shipyard in Tuzla.
The arrival of four vessels from Libya’s state-owned fleet this year highlights Türkiye’s position in the international ship repair market. GNMTC’s new management is understood to have undertaken extensive preparations covering the vessels’ technical requirements and operational arrangements.
Headquartered in Tripoli, GNMTC was established in 1975 and is wholly owned by the Libyan state. The company is led by CEO Ahmed Amer Abu Gharara.
According to information obtained by 7Deniz, İskenderun-based Makmar Shipping is involved in GNMTC’s representation in Türkiye. Makmar states that, as of 2026, it provides agency and representation services in Türkiye for GNMTC’s tanker fleet. The company also says it contributed to the opening of the passenger terminal connecting Zarzis, Tunisia, with Tripoli, Libya.
The maintenance and repair of GNMTC’s large vessels at Turkish shipyards also reflects the growth of Türkiye–Libya maritime cooperation in technical services.
