The Somali-flagged tugboat TEDY was reportedly attacked by drones off Ukraine’s Port of Odesa yesterday morning. A total of 10 people were reportedly on board the vessel at the time of the attack, including 4 Azerbaijani, 3 Turkish, 2 German and 1 Ukrainian nationals.

The damaged vessel was reportedly attacked by drones again at night while sailing toward Romania’s Port of Constanța. The attacks resulted in the deaths of Azerbaijani seafarers Aslan Aliyev and Asim Gasimov, while Imran Novruzov and Rauf Aliyev were injured.

Statement from Azerbaijan

In a statement, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the two injured Azerbaijani nationals had been taken to a hospital in Chornomorsk, Ukraine.

The statement said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with our country’s diplomatic missions and the relevant authorities of the countries concerned. Necessary measures are being taken to repatriate our injured citizens following their medical examination and treatment, provide the necessary consular assistance and carry out the procedures related to the deceased.”

Azerbaijani citizens were also urged to avoid travelling to areas where military operations are ongoing or where the security situation is unstable, working in such areas, or working on vehicles, including vessels operating on these routes.
