Ciner Orders Six New Ships from Chinese Shipyard
Strengthening its presence in the global dry bulk market, the Ciner Group has placed an order for six new vessels, each with a capacity of 64,000 DWT. The ships, to be built at a Chinese shipyard, represent a total investment exceeding USD 200 million.

Ciner has agreed with New Dayang Shipyard for six ultramax vessels, each with a capacity of 64,000 DWT. With each vessel priced at approximately USD 34 million, the total value of the agreement is estimated at around USD 204 million. Deliveries are expected to take place in groups between the fourth quarter of 2028 and early 2029.
The order was placed through the group’s shipping division, led by Vasileios Papakalodoukas. This move continues Ciner’s long-standing cooperation with the SUMEC-controlled shipyard, where the company has already signed multiple ultramax contracts.
Market sources indicate that with this latest agreement, Ciner’s ultramax fleet at New Dayang has reached at least 14 vessels. In recent years, Ciner has become one of the most active dry bulk shipowners in the shipbuilding market. In less than four years, the company has ordered up to 40 vessels across different segments, building a significant forward orderbook.
Alongside its ultramax program, Ciner has diversified its orders. The company’s orderbook also includes container ships, among them 3,100 TEU vessels scheduled for delivery in late 2025. In addition, larger bulk carriers are under construction at Hengli Shipbuilding in Dalian. The 82,000 DWT vessels are expected to begin delivery from March 2027 onwards.
