UK imposes new sanctions on Russia
The United Kingdom announced new sanctions targeting six Russian banks, six newly acquired shadow fleet tankers, and four Russian companies importing tantalum and niobium, rare metals used in weapons.
The United Kingdom announced new sanctions against Russia as part of its efforts to prevent Moscow from generating oil revenues. In a statement, the UK government said it had added 13 new designations and six new specifications under its sanctions legislation targeting Russian vessels, banks, and companies.
The new sanctions target six Russian banks, six newly acquired shadow fleet tankers, and four Russian companies importing tantalum and niobium, rare metals used in weapons. UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said in a statement on the sanctions, “We will continue to increase the pressure on Russia until a just and lasting peace is achieved.”
The UK government has imposed sanctions on more than 3,400 individuals, businesses, and vessels since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
