Due to the U.S.–Iran war, the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz is impacting not only energy markets but also a significant portion of the global trade chain.

Highlighting that this region is one of the most critical transit points for global energy trade, Sea Art Logistics General Manager Burcu Çamur stated:

“The closure or increased risk in the Strait could lead to higher transportation costs and longer shipment times. Especially for oil, petrochemical products, and many raw materials coming from Asia, cost pressures may intensify.”

The rising geopolitical tensions around the Strait of Hormuz have slowed activity in one of the world’s most vital maritime passages. Security risks in the region have caused disruptions in the passage of oil and LNG tankers, delaying a significant portion of energy shipments. This situation is creating uncertainty not only in global energy flows but also in the supply of raw materials that feed industrial production.

With growing risks along the Gulf route, some shipments are reportedly being held at ports or offshore. Energy and industrial companies have begun invoking force majeure clauses in their contracts to address potential delays. Shipments from energy-exporting countries such as Qatar and Kuwait to major consumer markets like India and China are experiencing delays, triggering a new crisis in the global supply chain.

"Force Majeure Reveals the Scale of the Crisis"

Emphasizing that this uncertainty marks the beginning of a new era in the global supply chain, Burcu Çamur added:

“Every container held at ports and every tanker forced to change course at sea means additional cost and delay for industry. Uncontrolled increases in freight rates and extended delivery times may soon bring other issues to the agenda. The fact that many global players have already activated force majeure clauses clearly demonstrates the seriousness of the situation and how severely operational sustainability is being threatened.”
