Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported that a container ship attempting to navigate an unauthorized and highly dangerous route in the Strait of Hormuz struck a mine and caught fire.

According to the IRGC, the vessel, which was carrying more than 2,500 containers, sank in the morning. The force did not disclose the ship’s name or flag.

The IRGC warned other vessels about containers floating in the sea and urged ships navigating the area to exercise extreme caution and take necessary precautions to avoid collisions with the containers.
