This milestone marks the first vessel built by Tersan for New Zealand and highlights the strong collaboration between Tersan Shipyard and Solander Group, bringing cutting-edge energy efficiency and sustainability to New Zealand’s deep-sea fishing industry.

Leveraging Tersan’s extensive expertise in trawler construction, Takapo is designed to set new benchmarks in the region. Built for both pelagic and demersal trawling, she will target Southern Blue Whiting, Jack Mackerel, Ling, squid, and Hake in New Zealand waters. Her freezer hold offers a cargo capacity of 2,135 m³, optimized for palletized and graded products.

Mehmet Gazioğlu, Managing Director of Tersan Shipyard, stated:

“We are immensely proud to deliver this advanced vessel to Aurora Fisheries. Takapo is the first ship we have built for New Zealand, which makes her especially meaningful to us. Our team worked diligently to ensure timely delivery, and we are confident she will set new standards in her field.”

Designed by Skipsteknisk and built under the supervision of DNV and New Zealand authorities, Takapo complies with all international and environmental regulations. Measuring 80 meters in length with a 15.4-meter beam, she provides modern, high-comfort accommodation for 50 crew members. Powered by a 4,800 kW main engine, she reaches speeds of up to 16.2 knots, supported by a 3,000 kW shaft generator and two auxiliary generators.

Onboard, Takapo features an advanced processing factory where catches are turned into fillets or head-and-gutted products, frozen at -30°C, and stored in cold storage. The vessel also includes a Surimi production line and a 250-ton capacity Reverse Osmosis system, ensuring efficiency and sustainability at sea.

Departing Tersan Shipyard on May 9, Takapo is now en route to New Zealand to join Aurora Fisheries’ fleet.
