Posidonia 2026 Set to Break Records with Extended Duration
The world’s most prestigious shipping exhibition is preparing to become the longest-running event of its kind, as Posidonia 2026 expands into a three-week celebration of the global maritime industry.

Record Exhibition and Economic Impact
With 50,000 square metres of exhibition space at the Metropolitan Expo sold out months in advance, thousands of exhibitors and visitors from 140 countries will converge on Athens. The event is expected to generate over €100 million for the economy of Attica and surrounding tourism destinations, benefiting hotels, restaurants, transport providers, entertainment venues, and more.
Expanding Beyond Posidonia Week
Theodore Vokos, Managing Director of Posidonia Exhibitions S.A., highlighted the growing influence of the event:
“The economic and business impact of Posidonia now begins nearly three weeks before the official opening, as conferences, business meetings, industry gatherings and sporting events are increasingly scheduled ahead of the traditionally crowded Posidonia Week.”
He added that bookings for hotels and event spaces have already surpassed 2024 levels, underscoring the expanded timeframe’s benefits to the local economy.
Global Maritime Leaders Gather
Posidonia continues to attract an unparalleled mix of Shipping Ministers, presidents of international organizations, Greek and international shipowners, and senior executives. As the home show of the Union of Greek Shipowners (UGS) — the world’s largest and most influential shipowners’ association — the exhibition also draws finance, insurance, and technology sectors.
In 2025, Greek shipowners placed 250 newbuilding orders and ranked second worldwide in second-hand vessel acquisitions, with around 260 purchases, behind only China.
Strong International Presence
Germany and Italy will return with National Pavilions after a prolonged absence, showcasing ship equipment manufacturers and service providers. To meet strong demand, organizers have welcomed around 40 new and returning exhibitors, including start-ups, technology innovators, and shipyards from the Far East and Australia.
Key Issues on the Agenda
According to Eva Tzima, Head of Research and Valuations at Cass Technava, discussions will focus on:
-
Geopolitical developments shaping supply and demand.
-
Environmental regulatory requirements.
-
Technological advancements, including the potential role of AI in shipping.
She noted that geopolitics is expected to dominate, citing the delay in IMO’s net zero framework adoption following lobbying by the U.S. administration.
