Malta Flag to Be Examined in Istanbul from All Angles
The seminar “Malta: Opening the Doors to Europe’s Maritime Hub,” hosted by AKT Law Firm and Ganado Advocates, will be held in Istanbul on June 16, focusing on ship registration and practical applications.

An important seminar bringing together maritime industry professionals interested in vessels registered under the Maltese flag will be held in Istanbul on 16 June 2026.
Organized jointly by AKT Law Firm and the Malta-based international law firm Ganado Advocates, the seminar titled “Malta: Unlocking Europe’s Maritime Hub” will welcome leading representatives of Malta’s maritime sector at Grand Hyatt Istanbul. Taking place between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, the event will explore the advantages offered by Malta, which hosts one of Europe’s largest ship registries, as well as ship registration procedures, maritime law practices, ship financing models, and investment opportunities.
During the first session, titled “Ship Registration: Malta as a Flag of Choice,” participants will discuss the Maltese ship registry, vessel ownership structures, and the strategic advantages that the Maltese flag offers to the international maritime industry.
AKT Law Firm organized panel moderated by Melek Başak Aldı will feature Ganado Advocates partner and Malta Maritime Law Association President Matthew Attard, AKT Law Firm senior partner Rona Kaspi, MRC Mercan Holding Maritime Director Serkan Karadayı, and Adrian Camilleri from Ganado Advocates as speakers.
In the second session of the seminar, under the title “Ship Finance: Legal Frameworks and Enforcement Realities,” Malta and Türkiye’s ship finance practices, credit structures, collateral systems, and legal procedures will be discussed.
In the panel moderated by AKT Law Firm senior partner M. Cem Kaspi, Ganado Advocates partner Matthew Xerri, Furtrans Group Shipping CEO Engin Bayraktutan, and QNB Finansbank Portfolio Manager Murat Özbiçer will share their experiences and assessments.
Throughout the seminar, participants will have the opportunity to gain information about recent developments related to the Malta flag, international practices, and new opportunities faced by the business world.
