Operating in both maritime and financial services sectors, GSD Holding pursues its investments in maritime transportation in line with strategic planning. In recent times, the company has both increased new-generation vessel investments and carried out fleet renewal moves that support operational efficiency.

Through its subsidiaries GSD Denizcilik and GSD Shipping B.V., the company has made significant investments in new-generation dry bulk carriers to be delivered in the coming years, under agreements signed with Japan’s leading shipbuilding groups. These vessels, to be built in Japanese shipyards with varying capacities, will join the fleet with fuel-efficient designs that strengthen the group’s international maritime transportation activities.

The latest step within these investments was a letter of intent signed between Netherlands-based subsidiary GSD Shipping B.V. and Sumisho Marine Co. Ltd., operating under the guarantee of Sumitomo Corporation, for the purchase of an ultramax-type dry bulk carrier to be built in Japan.

Steps Strengthening Operational Structure

In this process, the company has not only invested in new vessels but also carried out sales within the scope of fleet optimization, thereby transforming its fleet into a more modern and competitive structure. With these sales, GSD Holding reduced older tonnage while adding newer, more efficient vessels to its fleet, continuing to renew its operational structure in a balanced way.

In 2024, the ultramax-type vessel Zeyno was sold, followed by the handysize-type Olivia in 2025. After the delivery of the ultramax-type S. Selim in 2025, the dry bulk carrier M/V Guzide, which joined the fleet in 2026, also began commercial operations. With new vessels planned for delivery in the coming years, GSD Holding’s fleet will gain greater strength in both capacity and technology.

“We Are Expanding Our Fleet While Also Making It Younger”

GSD Denizcilik General Manager Hakan Yılmaz made the following assessment regarding recent investments:

“We continue our maritime operations with a long-term and disciplined investment approach. With the new vessel investments and strategic sales we have carried out recently, we are expanding our fleet while also transforming it into a younger and more modern structure. With the delivery of our vessel Güzide last week, as of today our group has an active fleet of 10 vessels and 7 new vessels under construction. With the new tonnage to be delivered in the coming years, both the number of vessels in our fleet and our total carrying capacity will increase significantly.”

Yılmaz also added:

“Our strategic focus at GSD Holding is on geared tonnage, defined as handysize and ultramax segment dry bulk carriers equipped with their own cranes. These vessels provide operational flexibility even in regions with limited port infrastructure, playing an important role in global trade. The high occupancy rates in global shipyards and the extension of new vessel delivery times indicate that new tonnage supply may remain limited in the medium term. Within this framework, we aim to continue growing in this segment and strengthening our fleet. With modern tonnage to be built in Japanese shipyards and added to our fleet, we aim to increase our operational efficiency. At GSD Holding, with our strong balance sheet and international business partners, we will resolutely continue our growth strategy in maritime transportation.”

GSD Holding continues to strengthen its fleet structure with the most modern vessels and efficiency-focused investments, closely following developments in the international maritime transportation market. The company aims to reinforce its position in global maritime operations with strategic vessel investments in the coming period.
