TRX Marine, which has a modern facility in Yalova Shipyards Region, produces fishing boats, products for the offshore sector, workboats and multi-purpose watercraft. Giving information about TRX Marine, Akay Doğusel, the company's finance manager, said that they produce marine vehicles used for different purposes in a way to provide the most efficient service by utilizing the possibilities of technology.
Speaking about the establishment and activities of TRX Marine, TRX Marine Finance Manager Akay Doğusel said that the purpose of TRX, which started its shipbuilding activities in 2022, is to contribute to the exports of our country by creating an ecosystem where all stakeholders involved in the project will win by producing technological and environmentally sensitive ships with high added value.
Sustainability and technology
"Sustainability and technology are the cornerstones of TRX Marine's business," says Doğusel. In order to minimize environmental impacts in the maritime industry, we produce solutions based on electric and hybrid technology. We aim to be one of the pioneers of the transformation in the sector with our high-tech, environmentally friendly ships. In this context, we prioritize energy efficiency and environmentally friendly features by using the latest technology from the design to the production of our ships. By contributing to Turkey's support for sustainability in the maritime sector, we aim to increase export potential with environmentally friendly projects. As TRX Marine, we are currently producing environmentally sensitive special ships with electric and hybrid technology under 40m in our existing facilities. We want to be one of the companies that come to mind when it comes to electric ships."We produce in Turkey and export to the world
Speaking about the expansion of TRX, the name of the company, Doğusel said, "The expansion of TRX is a curious subject. We get questions about it from many people. It is a word that is used in different sectors, but its registration in the maritime field belongs to us. TR symbolizes Turkey and X symbolizes export. We can think that we produce in Turkey and export to the world."
High quality and experienced engineers
Doğusel said that despite its young age, TRX Marine bases its strong presence in the sector on a qualified and experienced team of engineers. "The engineers of our company are the leading professionals of the sector with many years of experience in the maritime sector. These engineers have high quality standards in their deep knowledge and expertise in shipbuilding. TRX Marine's engineers not only master current production technologies, but also closely follow and cultivate future maritime trends. This enables the company to maintain its leading role in environmentally friendly and technological vessels. The quality of our engineering staff is one of the key elements that strengthens TRX Marine's position in the industry."
Environmental and sustainability-oriented
Underlining that TRX Marine is at the forefront with environmentally friendly and sustainability-oriented shipbuilding projects, Doğusel said, "Our current projects focus on minimizing environmental impacts and increasing energy efficiency by bringing an innovative approach to the sector. For example, the NB101 project was built for AQS, one of Norway's leading shipowners. The vessel is 18.5 meters long and 12 meters wide and is a pioneer among ships with fully electric or hybrid systems. This project stands out for its green approach and high energy efficiency, while the ship's electric motor allows it to operate without harming the environment during operation. At the same time, the electric motor is almost silent, which does not stress the salmon in the working area and ensures the highest quality of meat in fish farms.
Another project of ours, NB102, is the first electric river-type Cargo vessel of Lyon, France. This vessel is 27 meters long and 7.7 meters wide and has the ability to operate fully electrically on rivers thanks to its electric propulsion system. In addition, the ability to generate energy with solar panels shows that the ship is a sustainability-oriented project.
Our third project, NB103, is Canada's first electric vessel in the small tug class. This project adopts an environmentally friendly approach by utilizing new generation battery technology with a capacity of 270 kWh. The use of electric propulsion and a hybrid power system aims to reduce emissions and increase energy efficiency. These projects reflect TRX Marine's commitment to environmental and sustainability principles."
"We have made significant progress in a short time"
Talking about the countries to which the company exports its products, its capacity and its development in 3 years, Doğusel said, "As TRX Marine, we have shown a significant development in a short time. In our first years, we entered the sector mainly by providing engineering services. In 2022, we started our shipbuilding activities and grew rapidly. We successfully exported our first project, NB101, to Norway, and this project was an important step showing our contribution to the sector. We are now planning to export our second project NB102 to France and our third project NB103 to Canada. These exports show that our products are in demand in the international market and that TRX Marine is rapidly progressing towards becoming a global player.
As you know, the ship and yacht building industry increased its exports by 77% in 2023 compared to 2022 and approached the level of 2 billion dollars. Yalova, where TRX Marine produces, realized 38% of these exports and reached an export amount of 733 million dollars. As TRX, we also contributed to this figure. With new projects, we want to take part in this export race more in the coming years and contribute more to our country's exports.
In terms of capacity, at TRX Marine we focus on continuously increasing our capacity to produce our sustainable and environmentally friendly vessels. Our development in 3 years reflects our strong presence in the sector and our international recognition. In the future, we plan to further expand our capacity in line with new projects and growth targets."
Future plans
Doğusel also gave information about future projects and targets and said, "As TRX Marine, we will continue to focus on technological, environmentally friendly and high value-added projects in the coming period. We will continue to offer sustainable maritime solutions by furthering our expertise in the production of electric or hybrid technological ships. In addition to this, we can also produce different export-oriented marine vessels. In 2024, we plan to complete and deliver two projects currently under construction. At the same time, we aim to strengthen our position in the production of environmentally friendly and technological marine vessels by signing at least two new projects for the upcoming period. With these projects, we will continue to contribute to Turkey's exports in the maritime sector by increasing our presence in the sector."
