Zelenskyy Reacts to Attack on Turkish Ship in the Black Sea
The Turkish-owned Royad Mammadov, carrying corn, was attacked and sank in the Black Sea. Zelenskyy said two people were killed and 11 crew members were rescued.

A fire broke out aboard the Turkish-owned bulk carrier Royad Mammadov, which was carrying corn in the Black Sea. The incident occurred in Romania’s exclusive economic zone, after which the vessel sank. Romanian authorities stated that 11 crew members were rescued and two people lost their lives. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, meanwhile, claimed that the vessel had been targeted by two Russian UAVs.
Zelenskyy made a statement following the attack
Following the attack on a civilian vessel in the Black Sea, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a message of condolence for those who lost their lives in the incident. Zelenskyy emphasized that the safety of commercial vessels in the region must be restored following the attack.
Zelenskyy accused Russia of putting civilian maritime transportation at risk and drew attention to the threat posed by attacks in the Black Sea to international maritime traffic and global food security, saying:
“A civilian vessel carrying corn and belonging to Türkiye was subjected to a terrible attack by two Russian UAVs in neutral waters. There were Azerbaijani and Indian citizens on board. Unfortunately, for now, we know that the ship’s captain lost his life. I extend my condolences to him. The fate of another person is still unclear. Eleven crew members were rescued, one of them injured.”
