RMK Marine Launches Steel Cutting of LNG Tanker
RMK Marine has held the steel cutting ceremony for the next-generation LNG and bio-LNG bunker tanker “Celsius” at its Tuzla shipyard.

Developed in cooperation with Sirius Shipping and Gasum Group, the project marks a significant milestone in sustainable maritime transportation solutions.
Measuring 112.9 meters in length with a 7,800 m³ LNG capacity, Celsius incorporates new standards that support environmentally friendly solutions and energy efficiency in the shipping industry. The vessel will be equipped with a 27.7 MW gas combustion unit, enabling cooling and heating operations in the fuel or cargo tanks of other ships.
Thanks to LNG fuel use, the vessel will completely eliminate sulfur emissions and significantly reduce harmful particulates. Compared to conventional marine fuels, it will also lower nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide emissions. Furthermore, the use of bio-LNG, a fully renewable energy source, will reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%, positioning Celsius as a pioneering solution for sustainable maritime operations.
Statements from the Ceremony
RMK Marine CEO Dr. Utku Alanç said: “At RMK Marine, innovation always goes hand in hand with responsibility. With this project focused on alternative fuels, we are demonstrating our commitment to shaping a cleaner future in maritime transportation. This approach not only meets today’s standards but also sets new benchmarks for sustainable shipping, offering solutions that will protect our oceans for future generations.”
Sirius Shipping CEO Jonas Backman added: “We would like to thank all RMK Marine employees for making it possible for us to attend this ceremony. We are delighted to be here. Returning to Tuzla, Istanbul after 20 years to build a ship is truly exciting. Over the next two years, we will work together and establish a professional and strong business relationship between our companies. Above all, safety will always be our priority. Thank you for everything, and we look forward to a wonderful two years ahead.
