EU to Present New Sanctions Package Against Russia
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced that the European Union will present its 19th sanctions package against Russia this Friday.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the EU plans to unveil the new package to member states following a phone call between von der Leyen and U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this week.
In a statement following Tuesday’s call, von der Leyen said the upcoming package—marking the 19th since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine—will target the cryptocurrency, banking, and energy sectors.
She also noted that she had a constructive conversation with President Trump regarding strengthening joint efforts with EU countries to increase economic pressure on Russia through additional measures.
Most EU member states have pledged to gradually phase out all imports of Russian fossil fuels by the end of 2027, and von der Leyen expressed her desire to accelerate that timeline.
Meanwhile, the United States has urged its G7 allies to impose up to 100% tariffs on Russian oil purchases by China and India, in an effort to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to return to the negotiating table with Ukraine.
