Beşiktaş Shipping Expands Its Fleet with a $99 Million Investment
Beşiktaş Shipping has purchased three new tankers with an investment of approximately 99 million dollars. With this acquisition, the company’s fleet has increased to 39 vessels.
One of Turkey’s well-established maritime companies, Beşiktaş Shipping, continues to expand its fleet. According to information reported by Patronlar Dünyası columnist Kerim Ülker, the company acquired three new ships with an investment of about 99 million dollars. With this purchase, Beşiktaş Shipping’s fleet grew from 36 to 39 vessels.
Recent developments within the company have also drawn attention. Last month, one of Beşiktaş’s tankers was attacked off the coast of Senegal and sustained damage. Following this incident, the company announced that it had suspended all transportation activities to Russia.
According to Kerim Ülker’s article, each of the newly purchased ships is valued at approximately 33 million dollars, bringing the total investment for the three vessels to 99 million dollars.
New Ships Joined the Fleet with New Names Among the ships added to Beşiktaş Shipping’s fleet, the 2016-built, 49,999 DWT South Korean MR-type tanker PTI Nile joined the fleet under the names Antalya and Amasya. The 2015-built, 49,997 DWT tanker LVM Warrior was renamed Van.
It has been reported that all three newly acquired ships have charter agreements, with options, with Trafigura, the Singapore-based company that is the world’s second-largest oil trading firm.
Beşiktaş Shipping, which has a fleet mainly consisting of oil and chemical tankers, was founded in the 1960s. The company came into the spotlight last December when its tanker Mersin was damaged off the coast of Senegal due to four separate external explosions. Following these attacks, the company publicly announced that it had suspended all maritime transportation activities in Russia.
