Asyaport Sets New Türkiye Record with 22,896 TEU in Single Vessel Call
Asyaport set a new Türkiye record by handling 22,896 TEU during a single call by MSC Maya, while the port targets a 4 million TEU annual handling capacity.
A total of 22,896 TEU containers were handled during the call of the container vessel MSC Maya at Asyaport Port in Tekirdağ, setting a new record for Türkiye. This figure represents the highest container handling volume achieved during a single vessel call in Türkiye.
Asyaport Planning and Technical Services Manager Besim Dönmez stated that the previous Türkiye record had also belonged to Asyaport, adding that 6,000 more TEU containers were handled during the latest operation compared with the previous record.
Dönmez said the latest result demonstrated Asyaport’s operational capacity and the level it has reached on a global scale, noting that the handling volume of 22,896 TEU achieved during a single vessel call represented a significant achievement for Türkiye.
The second-phase extension investment at Asyaport, which began in 2022, is planned to be completed in November 2026. Upon completion of the investment, the port’s berthing area is expected to be extended to 2,800 metres, enabling three of the world’s longest container vessels to berth at the port simultaneously.
The port’s annual handling capacity, currently 2.5 million TEU, is also planned to be increased to 4 million TEU. As part of this expansion, the number of cranes serving large vessels has been increased to 15.
Dönmez stated that Asyaport had been planned as a regional main transit port from the outset, adding that the investments would provide Türkiye with increased service exports, foreign currency revenues and employment. Asyaport’s long-term goal is reportedly to become the largest single port in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, in line with Türkiye’s strategic geographical position.
