Cargo Throughput Continues to Rise at Turkish Ports
Turkey continued to strengthen its maritime trade power during the first eight months of 2025

Turkey has continued to strengthen its maritime trade performance during the first eight months of 2025. According to data from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the total cargo handled at ports between January and August reached 366.8 million tons, marking a 3% increase compared to the same period last year.
Container Traffic Shows Steady Growth Container throughput also saw a notable rise, increasing by 3.5% to 9.38 million TEUs during the same period. In August alone, Turkish ports handled 43.94 million tons of cargo—up 2.7% from August 2024. Container volume for the month rose by 0.4%, reaching 1.18 million TEUs.
Liquid Bulk Leads, General Cargo Surges Among cargo types, liquid bulk remained dominant with 111.34 million tons handled. The highest growth, however, was recorded in general cargo, which rose by 10.3% year-over-year to 45.03 million tons.
