Aliağa Ports Maintain Leadership in Cargo Handling
During the September general assembly meeting of the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping (DTO) Aliağa Branch, Chairman of the Board Adem Şimşek shared key statistics regarding Aliağa’s port performance for the January–August 2025 period. According to

Şimşek, the net tonnage handled at Aliağa Ports reached 60,007,782 tons, marking a 3.84% increase compared to the same period last year. Vessel calls also rose by 1.58%, totaling 4,163.
Leading in Cargo, Holding Strong in Container Traffic
Şimşek highlighted that gross tonnage handled during the same period reached 79,284,921 tons, reflecting a 0.6% increase year-over-year. With these figures, Aliağa ranked second in Turkey for gross tonnage, following Kocaeli.
In terms of container traffic, Aliağa handled 1,191,824 TEUs between January and August 2025. Despite a 15.43% decrease compared to the previous year, the port maintained its position as the fifth busiest container port in Turkey.
Vessel Traffic on the Rise
Şimşek noted that vessel calls to Aliağa Ports increased from 4,098 in 2024 to 4,163 in 2025, securing Aliağa’s position as second in Turkey, again following Kocaeli.
Infrastructure Strength Drives Sustainable Growth
In the first eight months of 2025:
Loading net tonnage reached 24,361,518 tons, a 4.71% increase
Unloading net tonnage totaled 35,646,264 tons, up by 3.25%
These figures confirm Aliağa’s status as Turkey’s leading port in both loading and unloading operations. Şimşek emphasized, “These results demonstrate Aliağa Ports’ sustainable success, driven by its robust infrastructure and expanding capacity.”
