A First from OYAK Maritime: AI-Powered Smart Cranes at İsdemir Port
OYAK Maritime and Port Management Inc. has achieved a first in Turkey’s port operations by introducing next-generation cranes powered by artificial intelligence.

The smart cranes, now being installed at İsdemir Port, will usher in a new era of operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
As part of the Port Capacity Expansion Investment Program launched in 2022, two AI-powered cargo cranes were delivered to İsdemir Port and the commissioning process has begun. The cranes, currently under installation, are scheduled to be operational in April. Globally, such AI-powered cranes are used only in the United States, China, and India—making this the first deployment in Turkey.
“A First in Turkey”
Emre Atay, General Manager of OYAK Maritime and Port Management Inc., commented:
“We are equipping our Grab Ship Unloader cranes with artificial intelligence integration—a first in Turkey’s port operations. This digital transformation not only maximizes our operational efficiency but also minimizes breakdown risks through predictive maintenance systems, optimizing costs. Most importantly, AI-powered monitoring mechanisms will elevate our occupational health and safety standards to the highest level.”
Digital Transformation and Predictive Maintenance
With the commissioning of the smart cranes, OYAK Maritime and Port Management Inc. is also launching its AI-Based Predictive Maintenance Project. Data collected in real time from the cranes will be analyzed using machine learning algorithms to predict failures before they occur, ensuring operational continuity, safety, and efficiency.
Project Advantages
• Ensures operational continuity and cost efficiency
• Enhances occupational health and safety
• Extends asset lifespan
• Increases productivity
• Reduces downtime costs
Through this investment, OYAK Maritime and Port Management Inc. takes a significant step forward in its vision of digital transformation, technological leadership, and sustainability—marking the beginning of a new era in Turkey’s port operations.
