Captain Cihat Yavuz Güler, who is the partner and representative of the Phoenix Register of Shipping (PhRS) classification society in Turkey, which serves 30% of the ships classed by PhRS worldwide, and who is also the founding General Manager of Liva Marine Supervision and Consultancy, says, "I don't do anything that I can't do, that I'm not sure of, that I don't know."
"As the Turkish branch of the Phoenix Register of Shipping (PhRS) classification society, we serve approximately 30% of the ships classed by PhRS worldwide," said Captain Cihat Yavuz Güler, founding General Manager of Liva Marine Supervision and Consultancy, and continued as follows: "I have a total of 16 years of experience, including 6 years as a captain. Firstly, I worked on commercial vessels at sea and then in the public sector and then as a flag state and port state surveyor for four and a half years. I also worked as an inspector in the private sector and as a private surveyor within the scope of the authorization I received from flag states. In order to carry all this knowledge and experience I have gained to the maritime sector under our own brand, I launched our company Liva Marine Audit, Surveillance and Consultancy in 2014. The general business area of our company Liva Marine can be briefly stated as all kinds of consultancy services, flag representation and private surveying services to maritime companies. In 2016, I became a partner of PhRS Turkey branch, 51% owned by Greece and 49% by me. The Turkish branch, which served 20 vessels when I took over, now has more than 300 vessels, which corresponds to approximately 30% of the PhRS business pool worldwide."
Stating that the branch with the highest portfolio worldwide is the Istanbul branch, Güler said, "Our company, which provides survey and certification services for ships, consists of a young and dynamic team working professionally with an amateur spirit with a customer-oriented and efficiency-based management approach."
We want this company to continue after us
Stating that they act with the principles of work discipline and customer satisfaction, Güler said, "Our main goal is to continue this company as a brand after us. I want to create a corporate memory and build a legacy. Liva Marine is my own company. After its establishment, we started to be recognized in many countries such as Panama, Palau, Comoros, Liberia, Guinea Bissau. We also have dialogues with other flags. As Liva Marine, we generally provide services such as flag representation, consultancy to shipowners, assistance in projects, surveying in ship purchases and sales, and support in insurance transactions. We have successfully completed many challenging jobs and this makes us proud."
I never attempt anything I can't do
Stating that they have mastered all the details before entering into a business as a way of working, Güler said, "I do not enter into any business that I cannot do, that I am not sure of, that I do not know. We sell information to people, consultation. We can make people lose money with the wrong information we give. I'm afraid of this, so I want to be sure of what I'm doing, I act carefully. When I'm thinking about a job, I put myself in the other party's shoes. I analyze what he wants and what he thinks. I don't get into business without really understanding the problem. This is like a patient-doctor relationship. It is dangerous to prescribe medicine without diagnosing the disease. Every profession is like this. It is necessary to understand what the person wants when buying a ship and choosing a flag. We provide guidance accordingly. These principles form the basis of our success. We do not want anyone to be harmed because of us and we expect those who will receive service from us to be transparent."
We aim for sustainable and controlled growth
Stating that a sustainable and controlled growth approach is at the center of their plans for the future, Güler said that they need to constantly renew themselves and that they pay attention to in-house training for this purpose and concluded his words by saying, "We believe that we can be one of the leading companies in our field in the industry by revealing our differences with this awareness and understanding."
