We are focused on ship management and chartering

Blue Ocean Founding General Manager Gülsün Karcı Erdoğdu stated that they are engaged in chartering, ship management and transportation in the Mediterranean and Black Seas with their 10131 DWT ship.

We work in world-class norms

Explaining that they have 28 staff, 19 of which are on board and 9 in the enterprise, Erdoğdu noted that as a company, they are extremely sensitive about in-service training and personnel needs, and that they serve the industry with the quality of employees in world-class norms.

Stating that she left many years behind in the sector, Erdoğdu said, “In the past, things were moving faster because the procedures were not so strict. The work was done first, the procedure followed. But now everything is happening on time and in accordance with the appropriate standards as much as possible. Acting with this awareness, we always keep ourselves ready for developments and updates. In this regard, we are doing the necessary work in all of our relevant departments"  and adding that:

“We are operating in good conditions. We have regular lines and when we look at the current freight market, there is a good income in freight. We operate our ships by following all the rules required by maritime in this market. With our professional staff, we have the knowledge and experience to successfully manage general cargo ships of any tonnage”.

If the freight market continues at this level, we will expand our fleet.

Erdoğdu, who said that Blue Ocean company is progressing step by step by working with a solid and professional team, announced that they are considering purchasing a 10000-25000 DWT vessel in 2023. Expressing that the ship they will buy will be a ship built after 2000, Erdoğdu said, “We are considering expanding the fleet as much as possible. We are currently very interested in a ship that was built in 2006. If the freight markets go like this, we will expand our fleet. Of course, we keep bad periods among the possibilities, but our current goals and plans are to expand the fleet. There are decreases in summer periods, but we see that freight rates will increase in winter periods. For purchasing, we are considering ships built in 2000 and later." Erdoğdu said, "We have to keep up with all the changes in the world, because all the systems on the ships have changed compared to previous periods. With the changing norms, you have to change the fuel systems of the ship. This includes spare parts and when equipment costs are added, serious costs arise."

We do not consider Russia due to the embargo imposed by Europe

Stating that they do not plan to go to Russia, Erdoğdu said, “We do not think about Russia due to the embargo imposed by Europe. Because the ships going to Russia are being questioned. Since our target is Europe, we do not plan to work towards Russia. We have not been affected by Ukraine until now, I think we will be affected from now on, but we will learn the answer to this question after September. Currently, since large tonnage ships will operate on the African route in Ukrainian ports, the voyages here are left to small ships. We will use this opportunity as long as we earn as long as the freights allow”.

Gülsün Karcı Erdoğdu, who is also known for her support to non-governmental organizations in the sector, said, “I am also a member of the Wista Marine Women's Association and the Coaster Shipowners and Operators Association. We also had a modest support for the most recent Mermaid Congress. We will always support young people and young sailors.”
