Turkey Sells a Warship to a NATO and EU Member Country for the First Time
Turkey has taken a historic step in defense industry exports. An agreement signed between the Military Factory and Shipyard Management Inc. (ASFAT), affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense, and Romania finalized the sale of the warship TCG Akhisa

With this deal, Turkey has, for the first time, sold a warship to a NATO and European Union (EU) member country.
In a statement from ASFAT, it was noted that the TCG Akhisar, completed in 2024 at the Istanbul Shipyard Command, has been successfully delivered to the Romanian Naval Forces Command.
The statement emphasized that the agreement represents a significant milestone in Turkey’s defense exports and elevates military cooperation between the two countries to a new level.
It was highlighted that this sale is not only a success for ASFAT but also a concrete demonstration of the credibility, quality, and technological competence achieved by the Turkish defense industry in the international arena.
The statement further underlined that the addition of Akhisar, a corvette, to Romania’s inventory will contribute to regional maritime security while strongly supporting the Romanian Naval Forces’ modernization goals.
